A look at Campus Life at Various Community and Junior Colleges
Raritan Valley Community College’s (N.J.) Visual and Performing Arts Department presents the 12th Annual RVCC Art Students Juried Exhibition through Nov. 24. The exhibition is being coordinated by RVCC faculty member and Art Gallery Coordinator Darren McManus.
The guest juror for this year’s exhibition is Bruce Dehnert, ceramic artist and head of the Ceramics Department at Peters Valley Craft Center in Layton. Artwork completed by RVCC students in the College’s Visual and Performing Arts Department during the past year—since the Fall 2014 semester—will be featured in the juried show. The artwork will include a wide variety of media, including ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, multimedia, photography, illustration, interior design, video and printmaking. Dehnert completed his undergraduate degree in creative writing from the University of Montana and received an MFA in ceramic sculpture from Alfred University. He has taught at numerous institutions, including Hunter College, Parsons School of Design, The School of Art in New Zealand, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and The University of Malaysia on the island of Borneo.
Music, dance and colorful costumes came to Volunteer State Community College (Tenn.) with a performance by the Chinese Music and Dance Troupe from Huang-Gang City, China. The show was sponsored by the Confucius Institute at Middle Tennessee State University and the Chinese Language Council International. The performance was part of the International Education program at the College, bringing global culture and perspective to Vol State students, faculty, staff and the community.
