APPOINTMENTS: Higher-ed leaders who have been recently appointed or promoted
The Long Beach City College Foundation has appointed Elizabeth McCann as its new executive director. In her new role, McCann will oversee and direct all aspects of the foundation. McCann has worked at the University of Southern California in a number of roles, including assistant dean for development in student affairs and director of development, principal gifts in university advancement. She graduated from USC with a bachelor’s degree in arts, English and American Studies and a master’s degree in public administration.
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees named Faith Hensrud as president of Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College. Hensrud has served the University of Wisconsin-Superior since 1995 in several capacities including provost/vice chancellor for academic affairs since 2010. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, a master’s from the College of St. Scholastica (Duluth), and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota. Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College have been formally aligned since 2003 and operate under the leadership of a single president..
Alketa Wojcik is the new vice president of student services at MiraCosta College (Calif.). Wojcik started as a MiraCosta College international student two days after graduating from high school in Albania. She graduated with an associate degree and then went on to earn her bachelor’s in business from California State University, San Marcos. She then completed her master’s in educational leadership from San Diego State University and her doctorate in educational leadership from UC San Diego/CSU San Marcos.
Jennifer Brezina is the new dean of humanities at Volunteer State Community College. (Tenn.) She comes most recently from the College of the Canyons (Calif.), where she was dean of Humanities and interim project director in the office of academic affairs. The Humanities Division is the largest academic division at Vol State and covers many subjects, including English, Music, Communications, Foreign Language, Philosophy and Entertainment Media Production. Brezina holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from U.C.L.A; a master of arts degree in English from San Diego State University; and a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Riverside.
Marcia J. Ballinger was chosen as the new president of Lorain County Community College (Ohio). Ballinger is currently LCCC’s provost/vice president for academic and learner services, a role she has held since 2011. She was LCCC’s vice president for strategic and institutional development from 2002-2011, vice president of the Lorain County Community College Foundation from 2002-2011 and director of marketing/recruitment and media relations from 1991- 2002. She earned a her doctorate from Walden University in 2012 in higher education with a minor in community college leadership, a MBA from Kent State University in 2000 and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1983.
