A summary listing of colleges receiving institution and individual honors and awards

The GTCC team, made up of five culinary arts students, claimed the national title in the Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl on July 27. The competition was part of the American Culinary Federation National Convention in Kansas City. Missouri. This is GTCC’s first national win in the competition.

Sheila Matthews, a human services professor at Kellogg Community College (Mich.), has received the 2014 Outstanding Faculty Award from the Michigan Community College Association.

a team event. Seventeen GTCC students and 11 faculty advisors attended the contest in Kansas City, Mo. and competed in 14 different contests including dental assisting, CNC milling, aviation maintenance technology and collision repair technology.

Lone Star College-Montgomery (Tex.) history Professor Craig Livingston, was recently honored when his latest book was awarded the 2014 Best International Book by the Mormon History Association . Livingston was presented with this distinction at the MHA annual conference.

Anne P. LaVance, director of the Delgado Community College’s (La.) Pharmacy Technician Program, has received multiple honors from educational and industry organizations. LaVance has been named chair of the Pharmacy Technician Committee on the Executive Board of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

They will go on to compete for the national title in Kansas City, Mo. in July. This is the third win for GTCC. This year’s team included: Aisha Boston, Jessica Bower, Alexia D’Egidio, Kirsten Darnley and Michael Nasrallah. Patrick Sanecki, assistant professor of culinary arts at GTCC, and Michele Prairie, culinary instructor at GTCC, coached.

Greg Bock, associate director of safety programs at Lewis and Clark Community College (Ill.), has been invited to be a trainer at the 2014 Community College Consortium for Health and Safety Training Train-the-Trainer Course. Bock began teaching at L&C as an adjunct faculty member in 2005 while fire chief of the Alton Fire Department.
