Abdulla spoke to faculty, staff, and students about her experiences as a refugee during the First Gulf War and issues surrounding refugees in the state of Tennessee.

As part of this project, she was trained using Alvin, a deep submergence vehicle owned by the U.S. Navy and operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Woods Hole, Mass.
