Anne P. LaVance, director of the Delgado Community College’s (La.) Pharmacy Technician Program, has received multiple honors from educational and industry organizations. LaVance has been named chair of the Pharmacy Technician Committee on the Executive Board of the Louisiana Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

They will go on to compete for the national title in Kansas City, Mo. in July. This is the third win for GTCC. This year’s team included: Aisha Boston, Jessica Bower, Alexia D’Egidio, Kirsten Darnley and Michael Nasrallah. Patrick Sanecki, assistant professor of culinary arts at GTCC, and Michele Prairie, culinary instructor at GTCC, coached.

Start2Finish @ NCC. The Dalio Foundation is a private family foundation in Westport, Conn., with a focus on supporting youth and educational initiatives. As part of a larger student success initiative at NCC, this program will begin in fall 2014 for 600 firsttime, full-time students.

County Community College (Pa.) cut a symbolic green ribbon on April 21 to dedicate four brand new wind turbines at its West Campus in Pottstown. The 25-foot vertical axis wind turbines were recently installed outside MCCC’s Schuylkill Riverfront Academic and Heritage Center, adjacent to Riverfront Park and the Schuylkill River.

Greg Bock, associate director of safety programs at Lewis and Clark Community College (Ill.), has been invited to be a trainer at the 2014 Community College Consortium for Health and Safety Training Train-the-Trainer Course. Bock began teaching at L&C as an adjunct faculty member in 2005 while fire chief of the Alton Fire Department.

She was among 85 finalists selected from 3,705 applications representing 737 community colleges.

$5,000 a year for 10 years from the association, will be used to refurbish a classroom with smart technology, equip the classroom with new furniture and set up a beverage lab. The proposed beverage lab will provide refrigeration equipment for wine tastings, which are essential to teach budding hoteliers and restaurateurs about wine.

Called “Tennessee Promise,” the legislation is a cornerstone of the Republican governor’s “Drive to 55” campaign to improve the state’s graduation rates from the current 32 percent to 55 percent by 2025 to help improve overall job qualifications and attract employers to the state.
