This Nov. 17 edition marks Community College Week’s 20th anniversary. Our first edition was published Nov. 21, 1988. In celebration of our 20th year, CCW looks back at a 1998 story titled, appropriately for our purposes, “Restoring History”. It is about students from across the country clamoring to get into Asheville-Boncombe Technical Community College’s decorative restoration program, the only one of its kind in the nation at the time. The North Carolina college regularly fields questions from people all over who want to restore historic buildings.

In 1998, Community College Week was celebrating its 10th Anniversary and writing about a digital future that might forever change higher education. In 2008, as we celebrated our 20th Anniversary while attending the League for Innovation in the Community College Conference on Information Technology (CIT), we met Dr. Michael Wesch, the anthorpologist of YouTube fame, The Machine is Using US. He gave a presentation on the higher education delivery system in the Web 2.0 environment of today.
